Acts of Kindness

Friday, October 7, 2011 // Labels:

Why is it that I have a cupboard full of hundreds (literally hundreds) of DVDS that gathers dust, but as soon as one of those forgotten movies hits the television, I'm glued to the couch - packet of cubed cheese and remote in hand and eyes transfixed to the screen. Before settling into the embrace of my couch tonight to watch The Mummy Returns on TV, it hit me how absurd it was that I'd rather waste time and sit through commercial ad breaks. So here I am, in an attempt to use my time more wisely.

I've been working 6 days a week lately so the most exciting thing that's been happening to me is running for trains, nearly being scammed in a seemingly endless search for an apartment/house/dwelling that doesn't cost my whole weekly paycheck and all my limbs, attracting looks of suspicion and awe from tiny human children who are scared of my hair and defending myself from beeping cars and the dangers of walking home at night in Western Sydney.

But, alas - I have a day off tomorrow (NOBODY UNDERSTANDS MY ANTICIPATION TO SLEEP IN) and plan to walk around the city to check out Michael Landy's Acts of Kindness exhibition, which is part of Sydney's Art & About festival. Walking after work and spotting the little jigsaw puzzles with beautiful little stories plastered all over electricity poles in the city, and the hanging outdoor photography exhibition in Hyde Park turns an otherwise achingly normal day into something kind of magical.

Heels ASOS Havoc
Necklace: Thrifted

There are no words for this beautiful maxi skirt that the lovely ladies over at Beginning Boutique sent me. I'm not one for tie dye and I steer clear of anything that looks like it might smell of incense, hemp or body odour but this subtle take on tie dye leaves me whirling with giddiness. It's not the greatest thing that it's still a bit too long for me (even with heels on), and I trip over the hem every time I try to walk up stairs. I ruined this very skirt with tres chic patches of blood after exercising my habit of having the coordination of a 5 year old playing tag and tripping in the middle of the city. I can probably tell someone the blood stains are intentional and pull it off. I don't really care, this skirt is too beautiful not to wear over and over again this summer.

'The Mummy' and 'The Mummy Returns' were my all-time favourite movies when I was younger. I spent an entire day just watching them back-to-back over and over again. Good ol' days...

Love the skirt, by the way!

Why are old movies more alluring on TV? i think that'll always remain a mystery.. or not cause I'm sure there's a psychological explanation to it but.. eh. Anyways, you look so pretty :) Love the skirt and the mustard shirt!
