Obligatory Sentimentality

At the best of times my memory is limited to the vague geographic location of my present being, so, trying to hoard together everything that happened this year would be ridiculously fucking stupid. This year, I started the year off with the resolution to Have More Adventures. The sad thing is, I don't even remember if that worked out or not.

All I know is that I STILL haven't gotten my license, my bank account is still clutching only $2.19 and I still don't have a skinny jeans, Beatles band shirt-clad, sunflower-picking, thrift-scavenging ripped as fuck indie boy holding my hand and hanging off my every word. Well, that's what 2010 is for, right?

Looking back on the past decade, the noughties, well, we haven't had much fashion wise to account for the past ten years, have we? Really, the 2000's have been about ripping shit off from the previous decades, leggings, tight jeans, crotchet, leather, studs, red lips, tie dye, harem pants (which I've only recently started to realise the intense comfort of, and they're on their way out already noooooooooooo), the list goes on. So before I end up rambling forevs and get a late start on my NYE plans, I'll stop here.

How I'll remember 2009: Good friends, new friends, second last year of school, three years until the Mayan calendar declares we're all going to fucking die, Obama, school work, Tumblr, and Glee.

I'm planning to go thrifting for the last time for '09 in about 10 minutes, speed off to work and make my last coffees for '09, hang out at the park with buddies for the last time in '09, and have my last party for '09. And that isn't as amazing as it sounds. I wasn't, in the end, allowed to go out, so I'm making my friend come over to my place and we're going to have a little party of our own - in my bedroom. Dressing up, dancing and all. It will be hardcore. Have a lovely and safe NYE everyone, see you in the next decade :)

If you're from Africa...

...why are you white? Lesson in life, kiddies: sneak in Mean Girls references in your daily life as often as possible.

Dress/shirt: Salvos ($3)
Booties: Barkins from DFO ($30)
Leggings: American Apparel Shiny Legging in Black Eel (gift from cousin)
Alligator/crocodile (Whats the difference?!) knuckle duster-ish ring: Diva ($9)
Feather sequin headband: Valleygirl ($5)
LENS-LESS GLASSES LOLZ: Salvos ($1)

When I saw the edge of this dress/shirt peeking out of a rack in Salvos, my heart jumped in a hot air balloon and floated into my mouth, in a really fast, violent way. I've been meaning to get a print like this on a skirt for a while now, and finding this (for $3, no less), has me wanting to kiss people on the street.

Christmas Mix Part 1: General

Over the next week, you'll be seeing a heap of more festive posts -> outfits, image spams and a few more of these Christmas playlists are in store. Might be a bit annoying, but it's Christmas, and you don't get to don tinsel and look like a leprechaun dipped in blood many times in the year, so we might as well take advantage of the opportunity.

So, this is part 1 of 3 Christmas playlists to come. This one is just general Christmas songs that can be enjoyed be anyone. The next two will be Northern and Southern hemisphere based. So Northern - snowy, cold Christmases. Southern/Aussie - hot, hot, hot Christmases.

Definitive Guide to Jessica's Style

...Otherwise known as:

1. A mishmash of images I found on Polyvore that make me happy.
2. An accurate representation of what I like, so, in turn, what my 'style' is.
3. 500 pictures of space, unicorns and photos with soft lighting.
4. Inspiration for your viewing pleasure.
5. An excuse to put off my Modern History assessment (tomorrow, and 25% weighting. Oh, god.)

AW10 Collection Overload

I apologise for the massive influx of photos that are about you slap you around (and it seems like I start off every second entry like this), but again, I couldn't help it. I just realised that every designer I've blogged about is Australian. Maybe thats just the patriotism in me flaring up. Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi.

LONELY HEARTS AW10

Not too keeno on the grandma-esque shoes, but the muted colours and soft tailoring makes up for it.

More Lonely Hearts.

KARLA SPETIC AW10

More Karla Spetic.

KLOSET AW10

More Kloset.

RUBY AW10

More Ruby.

And just then, Theresa from Earmuffed.com showed me this gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous swimsuit site - We Are Handsome. How OUT OF THIS WORLD ARE THESE PRINTS? I was infatuated a while back with a cut out one piece with galloping horses all over it, and the middle one tickles my pickle(s?) in soooo manyyy waaaays. Everything is insane about these one pieces, even the names are pretty great, from top to bottom - The Los Angeles, The Arabia and The Africa. Anything with 'The' (with a capital T) in front of it makes it 500 times more badass. For example, The Jessica. Even though I'm already pretty badass myself, without the capital The.

Goodies

Today marks the first day of my months and months and months (and what seems like forever) of the end of my thrifting drought.

Reason I was in a drought: I had no money. How crazy is that? Not having enough money to THRIFT.

The reason does not matter. The fact of the matter is: I was in a thrifting drought. For a very, very long time. Thrifting is like a drug to me, second hand shops are my second home. I cannot describe how much of an intense love and appreciation for life that I feel when I thrift. I'm probably coming off as nuttier than a jar of peanut butter, but its true. I'll devote a whole post to rambling on about how much I love it, and maybe even write up a list of tips and shit later on.

So, I went thrifting today. I was in a drought, and it rained. The rain wasn't a flood, more of a light drizzle, but its enough to satisfy my intense hunger...for now. What I got:

A framed photo of a french couple kissing, $2.

Black satchel, $5. I know I have a bit too many bags sourced from second hand shops, its kind of an addiction thats spiralling out of control, but I couldn't help myself. I didn't have a black satchel before anyway!

This kind of strange deer headband thing, $1.

Gorgeous tooled wallet, $2. It says "MK", which I assume are someone's initials, but its so well crafted and the interior is so lovely, I had to buy it. I needed a new wallet anyway! I swear I won't use the justification "I needed a new ____ anyway!" again (in this entry).

Sunflower scarf, $1. Scarves = good. Sunflowers = great.

French-English dictionary, $1. I don't speak French, but I do intend to speak it fluently one day.
